Frank Fernand’s Birth Centenary celebrated
Tiatr Academy of Goa celebrated the Birth Centenary of the legendary musician Franklin Fernandes popularly known as Frank Fernand on 3rd May, 2019 at the Conference Hall of TAG, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji Goa.
Shri. Agostinho de Cruz, an eminent musician, composer, producerwas the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries offered floral tributes to the portrait of late Frank. Speaking on the occasion Shri. Agostinho said that the contribution of late Frank Fernand in the field of music is immense. He further said that during his times there were no recording studios as of now but still Frank managed to record songs with a huge orchestra and thus the songs remained immortal till date.
Shri. Fausto V. Da Costa, a well-known writer and Editor of Gulab magazine highlighted the contribution of late Frank Fernand to Konkani Films and music. Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo and Shri. IsidoreDantas, cousin of late Frank also spoke on the occasion.
Johnny B Gud and Bushkasang some of the songs from the Konkani films ‘AmchemNoxib’, ‘Nirmonn’ and ‘MhojiGhorkan’. Shri. Agostinho de Cruz also played popular tunes on mandolin of songs composed by Frank on the occasion which was well appreciated by the audience.
Earlier Shri. Gurudas P. Pilarnekar, President of TAG welcomed and later Shri. CezarD’Mello Member Secretary of TAG proposed the vote of thanks. The function was compered by AgnelBorim.

India Post releases Special Postal Cover on Anthony De Sa on his
The Birth Centenary of a famous Cuncolim born Tiatrist Anthony De Sa was celebrated in a grand way by Tiatr Academy of Goa in collaboration with Cuncolim Municipal Council at Cuncolim on 1st March, 2015. On this occasion, Indian Post released a Special Postal Cover on Anthony De Sa, which was sponsored by TAG at a glittering function held at CMC Hall, Cuncolim, at the hands of Post Master General, Goa Region Shri Charles Lobo in the presence of Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Manuel Fernandes, Parish Priest of Cuncolim, Guest of Honour Shri Landry Mascarenhas, Chairperson, Cuncolim Municipal Council, President TAG, Prince Jacob, Vice President TAG, Joe Rose, and Member Secretary TAG, Jose Alexandre Rodrigues.
Prince Jacob welcomed the Guests. The Chief Guest Mr. Charles Lobo who himself is a big Tiatr enthusiast, addressed the gathering and also promised to release such covers after the names of more such Tiatrists in future, provided he remains in Goa. Fr. Manuel also spoke on the occasion and said he knew the priest brother of Anthony De Sa who was a powerful orator of Sermons. Mr. Landry in his address said he was very proud to name the road after Anthony De Sa during his tenure as a Chairperson of CMC as he too hails from the same ward of Anthony De Sa i.e Dandora. Vice President Joe Rose who is also a famous Tiatr personality, while giving Vote Of Thanks recollected his association with Anthony De Sa when he first stepped on the Tiatr Stage as a youngster.
This function was followed by unveiling of Plaque naming the road leading to Anthony De Sa’s house at Dandora, Cuncolim as “Anthony De Sa Rosto”. Fr. Manuel and Mr. Landry along with Prince Jacob garlanded the plaque in the presence of other TAG members, dignitaries, Tiatrists and a large number of well-wishers and family members of Anthony De Sa. In the evening session, a Lenten Tiatr “Tumchim Monam Bodlat” written and directed by Ligorio Fernandes was staged by TAG at CMC Hall, Cuncolim, which was well attended.

The Birth Centenary of late Jacinto Vaz, the Charlie Chaplin of Konkani Stage, was celebrated in a grand way by Tiatr Academy of Goa on 27th April 2018 at Mandur, Ilhas Goa, the birth place of late Jacinto Vaz. On this occasion, Indian Post released a Special Postal Cover on Jacinto Vaz, which was sponsored by Tiatr Academy of Goa, at the hands of Postmaster General, Goa Region Dr. N. Vinod kumar, IPos, in the presence of Chief Guest Shri. Michael Lobo – Hon. Dy. Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Guest of Honour Shri. Francisco Silveira – Hon. MLA of St. Andre Constituency, Special Invitees Rev. Fr. Roland Carvalho – Parish Priest of Our Lady of Amparo Church Mandur & Dean of Goa Velha Deanery, Shri. Cyriaco Dias – an eminent tiatr personality, Archana Gopinath, Sr. Supdt. of Post Offices, Mapusa, Shri. Agostinho Temudo – President TAG, Shri. William Fernandes – Vice President TAG, and Shri. Cezar D’Mello Member Secretary TAG.
The function began with the unveiling of the bust of late Jacinto Vaz at his residence at the hands of Chief Guest, Shri. Michael Lobo, Hon. Dy. Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly in the presence of other dignitaries.
Shri. Agostinho Temudo, President of TAG welcomed the Guests. The birthday cake was cut by the grandson of late Jacinto Vaz while the audience sang the birthday song. The Postmaster General, Goa Region Dr. N. Vinod kumar, IPosspoke on the importance of the Special Cover and said that the department loves to commemorate this event and this personality and would definitely be happy to bring out such postage stamps and special covers on more tiatr artistes. The Chief Guest Shri. Michael Lobo in has address said that late Jacinto Vaz was a legendary tiatrist, an eminent personality knows as ‘Charlie Chaplin’ of the Konkani Stage. His appearance and expressions on the stage used to make the audience laugh, today we can see very few such comedians on the stage. He promised to sponsor a full brass statue of around 700 kgs of late Jacinto Vazand late Surya Wagh at Mandurin order to keep these great personalities alive for future generations requested the authorities to recommend a place to fix the same. Shri. Francisco Silveira in his address requested the villagers of Manudr to render their support in naming some of the roads at Mandur in the name of famous personalities from Mandur like late Jacinto Vaz, late Surya Wagh, etcwho have contributed immensely in various fields. Senior tiatrist Shri. Cyriaco Dias who was a Special Invitee, in his few words said that Jacinto Vaz was a very good tiatr artiste, composer and singerbesides a simple man good at heart. He was a very good in cookingtoo and had so much love for Goa. He recollected that Jacinto Vaz was the first person among them to perform in Africa in 1958 and first tiatrist to receive the State Cultural Award from the Government of Goa. Rev. Fr. Roland Carvalho – Parish Priest of Our Lady of Amparo Church Mandur & Dean of Goa Velha Deanery also spoke on the occasion. Shri. Peter Vaz, son of late Jacinto Vaz proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by well-known tiatr personality Shri. Pradeep Naik and co-ordinated by Miss. Mafaldina Moreira, Programme In-charge.
This function was followed by staging of a Konkani Musical Show by Ben Evangelisto and his troupe comprising of some selected songs composed by late Jacinto Vaz. The function was well attended by the tiatr artistes, villagers and fans of late Jacinto Vaz.
