Joe de Cavelosim –Man with a dominating voice

Born to Francisco D’Souza and Felicia Dias Mandolinn on 9th February 1950 at Mumbai, Antonio Jose D’Souza is more popularly known as Joe de Cavelossim in tiatr circles. He was invited by the Tiatr Academy of Goa as the artiste of the month at their monthly program ‘Meet The Artiste’ on 22nd February 2013 at the Conference Hall of TAG, Campal Trade Centre, Campal.

Recounting his life’s cores Joe said that since childhood he developed liking for singing and acting in dramas. He was just 10 years old when he first stepped on the tiatr stage in one of his father’s tiatr in his own village. Joe has a powerful and a dominating voice and was well appreciated by the audience. His late father Francisco D’Souza was also a tiatr artiste and was known as Jimmy Boss on the tiatr stage.

Speaking further he said that during his times Zomnivoilo Khell which is held in the Intruz or Carnival was very popular and one of the Khell mestre’s late Casmiro gave him an opportunity to act in his Khell ‘Suvarnachem Zhadd’. Thereafter he became very popular on the Khell arena and was in demand to render the second voice.

Speaking on his stint on the professional stage Joe told his audience that he got his first break on the professional stage in the year 1975 when Roseferns one of the most popular writer/director of non-stop dramas invited him to act in his non-stop drama ‘Nimnni Chitt’. This gave him an opportunity to flourish on the professional stage and he soon got offers and acted in Patric Dourado’s ‘Niraxi’,  ‘Familik Ollkhona’, ‘Maim’, ‘Ostori’, ‘Dev Borem Korum’, ‘Lok Kitem Mhunttolo’, ‘Varem’ and ‘Tem Koxem Melem’. It was at this time that he became more popular as a professional artiste and was appreciated and well received by the audience.  He received cash rewards from the audience for more than 18 times for his extra ordinary performances in Patrick Dourado’s ‘Varem’ and ‘Dev Borem Korum’.

He also recounted his real life ordeals and praised the Almighty for getting him through all the hardships in life that he faced
