Tragedy King Mario Menezes Interacts with his fans

Originally hailing from Chinchinim, Mario Menezes popularly known as Tragedy King Mario Menezes on the tiatr stage was born on 29th May 1960 at Margao to Shri. Leopoldina Menezes and Esmeralda Noronha. Mario has spent most of his life in Vasco as he grew up in this beautiful Port Town. He was speaking at ‘Meet The Artiste’ a regular monthly program organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa on  22nd December 2012 at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy at  Campal Trade Centre, Campal.

Proud of serving the Konkani Stage Mario while recounting his earliest memories said that he first stepped on the tiatr stage as a child artiste at the age of 6 in a village tiatr at Durga Chinchinim. He joined an Amateur troupe of Shri. Joel in 1978 and first came on the professional stage in Fr. Freddy J. da Costa’s tiatr ‘Doxea’ in 1981. Thereafter he has acted for numerous well-known directors of Konkani stage namely Rosario Rodrigues, Roseferns, Prince Jacob, Pascoal Rodrigues, Jose Rod, Patrick Dourado, Menino de Bandar, Ligorio Fernandes, Comedian Agostinho, Philip Almeida, Menino Mario, Anthony San, C. D’Silva, Aristides Dias, Ben Evangelisto, Lawry Travasso, Comedian Sally, Fr. Neville, etc. Well acclaimed for doing tragedy roles, Mario excelled in one such role with outstanding performance in Rosario Rodrigues’ ‘Fulam ani Kolle’ wherein Shri. Francisco Branco, the then MLA and Former Mayor of Panjim gave him the the title ‘Tragedy King of the Tiatr Stage’.

Since 2001 Mario has been serving the stage under the banner of Menezes Theatres and has written and directed about 31 tiatrs till date. In April 2011 with his 25th production ‘Rogtacho Rong Tambddo’ he completed a feat in writing and directing 25 tiatrs within a span of just 9 ½ years on the commercial stage.

As a popular writer, director of 31 tiatrs, Mario said that ‘Goa Bandh’, ‘Hevui Chukik Bhogsonnem Asa’, ‘Beiman Kir’, ‘Futtlexi Boxi’, ‘Rogtacho Rong Tambddo’, ‘Mhoi Maim Mhoji Dusman’, ‘Tiatr Somplo Cholat Ghara’, ‘Sangat Ami Bhurguim Konnachim’, ‘Tanchem Chintam Tivui Mhunxeam’, ‘Kal Aiz Ani Faleam’, ‘Hatachim Panch Bottam’, ‘Xirlo’, ‘Padri Mogan Poddla’, etc are his most popular and well acclaimed productions.

Amongst the various positions held by Mario he says being nominated to the first Executive Council  of Tiatr Academy of Goa (2009-2012) was A memorable experience. Speaking on his success Mario said that he places his troupe member before him as the success of every Director depends on his actors and said that all directors should respect their cast irrespective of the role they play. Members of his troupe who were present on the occasion were Lawry Travasso, Rosy Alvares, Comedian Joana,Tony de Ribandar , manager John Hatts besides his wife Epiphania Menezes and two lovely daughters Rioma and Riosha Menezes.

Other prominent tiatr personalities who graced the occasion were Tomazinho Cardozo, Fr.Nevel Gracias, Shaikh Amir. T.Britton, A Friend besides others.
