Josefina Dias 26-05-2011

Go back

“I have great love to Tiatr its Song and Music because it is through tiatr that I did not only get fame but also I financially supported the growth of my family” said  Mrs. Josefina Dias. She was speaking at the TAGs monthly programme ‘Kolakorak Bhett’ ‘Meet the Artiste’ on 26th May 2011 at the Conference Hall of TAG, Campal, Panjim.

Speaking further Josefina Dias disclosed that they had to undergo numerous difficulties for keeping the tradition of tiatr alive. There were instances when after the performance of tiatr they had to spend the night on the bus-stands in order to catch the bus to go home the next morning. They underwent all these hardships because they loved the art of tiatr.

She informed the audience that her father was responsible to encourage her to act and sing in the tiatrs. She disclosed that almost all the family members including her late husband Shri. F.X. Dias contributed to the development of Goan tiatr. She remembered veteran tiatr artistes like C. Alvares, Prem Kumar, M. Boyer, John Claro, C. D’Silva, Jessie Dias, Platilda Dias and others who as writers and directors always helped her in performing her role as best as possible.

Answering questions from her fans, she stated that she is not seen on the tiatr stage in the recent times because of her health problem. She also narrated numerous incidents in her life which gave her strength to be a better artiste.

Earlier Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG welcomed the audience and informed the gathering the importance of the programme ‘Kolakorak Bhett’. The deliberations of the programme are video recorded and preserved in the library of TAG for posterity. She was presented a memento by Shri. Roseferns, Vice President of TAG as a remembrance of the programme. Shri. Roseferns later proposed a vote of thanks.  Shri. Joy Fernandes, Programme Officer of TAG compered the function.

At the beginning of the programme one minute silence was observed in memory of veteran tiatr artiste Shri John Gomes (Kokoy) who expired recently.
