A well known Konkani singer and tiatr artiste, Maria Cardozo, popularly known as Maria de Candolim was the artiste of the month at TAG’s monthly programme ‘Meet the Artiste’ held on 24th March 2015 at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Campal, Panaji.

Narrating her passion for tiatr, Maria said that as a little girl she was very fond of singing, dancing and sports. As she grew up she showed interest in reading religious books and singing in church choir. Slowly she started taking part in village one act plays written and directed by Anthony Carvalho and tiatrs of her brother Eugenio Cardozo and Joao Cardozo from Saipem, Candolim. Her brother Eugenio by seeing her keen interest in acting and singing and her love for tiatr, encouraged her by penning good lyrics of songs for her which she sang with great zeal and dedication.

Full of zest, Maria said “I love to sing foot-tapping songs”. She also regaled the audience with her super hit songs ‘Super Dancer’ and ‘Nach Baba Nach’.

Shri. Joe Rose, Vice President of TAG appreciated her for achieving fame not only in tiatrs but also in sports wherein she represented Goa in various national championships in athletics and other sports and she still represents Goa in Veteran Sports Meets.

Mrs. Lavina D’Souza, niece of Maria who was elected as a Chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council on the same day said that she made it for the programme in spite of her very busy day, as she was always inspired by Maria’s enthusiasm and positive attitude.

Earlier Shri Joe Rose, Vice President of TAG welcomed the artiste and audience and later presented a memento to Maria as a remembrance of the day. Shri Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Member Secretary of TAG proposed a vote of thanks. Shri Jess Luz, Programme In-charge compered.
