Priti interacting with her fans

A famed tiatr artiste Priti P. Lotlikar, maiden name Maria Blandina Arcadia Rodrigues alias Blanche was the artiste of the month at TAG’s monthly programme ‘Kolakarak Bhett’ – ‘Meet the Artiste’ held on 23rd December 2014 at the Black Box of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

The memories of the past were recalled when some clippings of tiatrs in which Priti acted were shown on the screen. Hailing from Colva, Priti who first stepped on Konkani stage at a very young age of 12 narrated how she entered on the tiatr stage. Her father fondly known as ‘Antonbab’ was a mestri at Colva Church. He used to compose songs in tiatrs performed in the village and was a sure shot encore. This fascinated little Priti to act in tiatrs. Her father taught her many songs where she received applaud. She also sang some of those songs on this day.

Married to Premanand Lotlikar, a well-known tiatr artiste, Priti further recalled that Premanand used to avoid giving her major roles in his tiatrs so as to keep her reserved as an ‘emergency’ in case the main artist fails to turn up due to any unavoidable circumstances.  Like this, she went on to become one of the versatile actress by adorning different type of roles be it of mother, heroine, a vamp or a comedian.

While interacting with Priti, Shri Jess Fernandes, a noted tiatr writer said “Priti was an all rounder. I never faced any difficulty to stage my tiatrs when she was in my troupe. She was a backbone and always supported me. When she stopped acting on the stage I had to shut down my shop”.

Priti’s sister-in-law appreciated Priti and expressed her feelings of how she kept the Lotlikar family united even though she came from a different religion.

Earlier Shri Jacob Fernandes, President of TAG welcomed the artiste as well as the audience and later presented a memento to Priti as a remembrance of the occasion. Shri Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Member Secretary of TAG proposed a vote of thanks. Shri Jess Luz, Programme In-charge compered.

Prominent among those who were present were Pandarinath Lotlikar, A. M. Pacheco, Anil Kumar, Premanand Lotlikar, Caetano Goes, Cruz de Sanvordem, Fausto V. Da Costa, Cyril Fernandes, Walter Menezes, Alvaro Gomes, Daniel F. De Souza, Connie-M, etc.
