Birth Anniversary of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes celebrated –   ‘Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards - 2015’ presented

Tiatr Academy of Goa in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao celebrated the birth anniversary of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes, the Father of Tiatr on 14th December, 2015 at Pai Tiatrist Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

On the occasion TAG presented Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards to 6 eminent tiatr artistes (Commercial)viz Sharon Mazarello, Antonio DamacianoDiniz (Diniz Mestri), Jose Xavier Gomes, Thomas Camilo (T. Britton), Fatima D’Souza and Lourenco. A Fernandes(Lawrence de Tiracol) for their valuable contribution to tiatr. The awards were presented at the hands of Chief Guest Shri. Vishnu Surya Wagh, Hon’ble M.L.A. and Chairman of Kala Academy Goa which consisted of a shawl, memento, citation and cash burse of Rs. 50,000/-.

Speaking on the occasion Shri. Vishnu Surya Wagh remarked that it is an opportunate time to declare tiatr as an industry so as to avail the various Government schemes and rebates/subsidies being provided to other sectors. He underscored the financial difficulties encountered by amateur tiatrists to stage their first 20 shows while pointing out the fact that many families sustain themselves through staging of tiatrs. Shri. Damodar Naik, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao who was the Guest of Honour said our mother tongue Konkani has become stronger and is still alive only because of tiatrists. Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, former President of Tiatr Academy who was the Special Invitee said that now despite of many facilities and schemes from Government, the present tiatrist rarely publish their manuscripts of tiatrs. However Pai Tiatrist was a great visionary and believed that tiatr should be preserved for future generations and for that reason he left behind his legacy by publishing his tiatrs in book form with his own money.

One of the awardee Sharon Mazarello expressed her gratitude on behalf of those felicitated for recognizing their works and said that Lucasinho Ribeiro and Pai Tiarist Joao Agostinho Fernandes had lit the lamp and their names deserve to be written in golden letters.The stalwarts who followed in their footsteps later on including the present day tiatrists have kept this lamp burning and are doing their bit to carry forward their legacy.

Shri. Agostinho Temudo, President of TAG welcomed the gathering while Shri. William Fernandes, Vice President of TAG proposed a vote of thanks. Also present on the dais were Smt. Sharmila Fernandes, grand-daughter of Pai Tiatrist and Shri. Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Member Secretary of TAG. The function was compered by a Pradeep Naik and coordinated by Jess Luz, J.C.A of TAG. A brass band welcomed the dignitaries.

After the formal function, a Konkani musical show was presented by Comedian Ambe and his troupe.

Regina’s Birth Anniversary celebrated –   ‘Young Achievers Awards - 2015’ presented

Tiatr Academy of Goa celebrated the birth anniversary of Regina Fernandes, the First Lady of the Tiatr Stage on 16th November, 2015 at the Institute Menezes Braganza Conference Hall, Panaji. On this occasion, TAG presented ‘Young Achievers Awards-2015’ to two of the brightest artistes of Tiatr, Antonette de Maina and Nolvert Cota, for their valuable contribution to Tiatr. The awards consisted of a memento, citation and cash burse of Rs. 10,000/-.

The awards were presented at the hands of the Chief Guest, Dr. Meenacshi Martins, a Psychiatrist anda renowned Konkani film actress in the presence of Guest of Honour Socorina Fernandes (Sucu-Ferns), a well-known tiatr artiste. 

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Meenakshi Martins said that the tiatr has its unique format which should not be changed but when it comes to Konkani cinema the artistes should be given training becausethe dialogue delivery in films is completely different from that of tiatr. She recalled how she happened to take up the stage at the same time while pursuing her studies in medicine.

Socorina Fernandes congratulated both the awardees and praised all the lady artistes who are presently performing on the tiatr stage. She said that today we see girls on the stage only because of Regina Fernandes and many of our lady artistes including single mothers have made their future and brought up their children by acting in tiatrs.

Awardee Antonieta D’Melo thanked TAG for recognizing her work and bestowing this award upon her. She thanked all her directors specially Milagres de Chandor for giving her a break to act in one of his khells and fulfilling her dream of becoming a tiatrist. She also thanked her parents, siblings and all her fans. She also made a special mention of Tony de Ribandar for encouraging her to sing songs besides acting. The other awardee Nolvert Cota thanked TAG and all his Band members acknowledging that the credit should also go to them as without their support he alone cannot make music.

Shri. Agostinho Temudo, President of TAG welcomed and Shri. William Fernandes, Vice President of TAG proposed a vote of Thanks. Shri. Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Member Secretary of TAG was also present. The function was compered by a renowned actress Chitra Shirvaikar.

After the formal function, a reputed actress of Tiatr stage and Executive Member of TAG Annie Quadros presented an All Ladies Musical Show which was performed by well-known artistes of the Konkani stage. The function was attended by a jam packed audience.

Birth Anniversary of late Rosario Rodrigues‘Khell Tiatr Stalwart’ -TAG felicitates 5 Khell/KhellTiatr Artistes

Tiatr Academy’s prestigious ‘Lifetime Contribution to Khell/KhellTiatr Awards 2015’ were conferred on 5Khell/Khell-Tiatr veterans on 24th October, 2015 on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of late Rosario Rodrigues one of the greatest stalwarts of the Khell-Tiatr Stage at a special function held at the Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao.

On the occasion, Shri Menino de Bandar, a well-known tiatr artiste, was the Guest of Honourand presented the awards to A. M. Pacheco, Priti P. Lotlikar, Sacramento Pereira, Thomas Antao and Antonio Vital Furtado. Shri. Menino de Bandar praised the Government for the formation of Tiatr Academy of Goa and also the former Presidents of TAG, Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo and Shri. Prince Jacob who worked very hard during their tenure for the upliftment and development of tiatr and also congratulated the new President AgostinhoTemudo for taking the responsibility of carrying forward the work of TAG.

Speaking on the occasion awardees Shri. Antonio Vital Furtado and Smt. Priti Lotlikar thanked the Tiatr Academy of Goa for recognizing their contribution by conferring these prestigious awardson them.

Later on a musical programme based on the life and works of late Rosario Rodrigues was presented by Antonio Vital Furtado and his troupe. The programme was well attended by a large audience.


Birth Anniversary of late Lucasinho Ribeiro ‘Creator of Tiatr’ - Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards presented.

2nd January, 2015

Tiatr Academy of Goa celebrated the Birth Anniversary of Lucasinho Ribeiro, the Creator of Tiatr on 2nd January, 2015 at his place of birth Assagao.  The programme was held at Assagao Union High School Ground, Assagao, Bardez in collaboration with newly formed ‘Lucasinho Ribeiro Tiatr Academy, Assagao’. On this occasion, TAG felicitated 8 senior tiatr personalities namely Perpetua S. Jacques, Agostinho D’Costa, Brazinho Soares, Anthony Gabriel Fernandes, J. l. Anselm Gomes, Caetano Dos Milagres Pereira, Thomas Andrade and Sebastiao Inacio de Souza with an award for their lifetime contribution to the field of tiatr (non commercial). These tiatr artistes were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the development of tiatr in Goa at the hands of Hon’ble Minister for Art & Culture, Shri Dayanand Mandrekar. The award consisted of a memento, a shawl, a citation and a cheque of Rs. 20,000/-

Member of Zilla Panchayat, Shri Vasudeo Korgaonkar was the Guest of Honour. Village Sarpanch Smt Priyanka Sangelkar and Parish Priest Fr. Santano Agnelo Quadros were the special invitees on the occasion.

Shri Jacob Fernandes, President of Tiatr Academy Goa welcomed the guests. Speaking on the occasion, he said that one cannot become a great person without doing small things and this example is set to us by Lucasinho, the great son of this soil.

The Chief Guest, Shri Dayanand Mandrekar in his key note congratulated TAG for celebrating the birth anniversary of Lucasinho Ribeiro in his village Assagao and requested TAG to have this function every year in this village and promised to give his full support to TAG. He also congratulated all the awardees. He further said that these artistes had to go through hard times in order to reach the goal.

Jessie Dias, President of LRTA proposed a vote of thanks.  Joe Rose, Vice President TAG and Jose Alexandre Rodrigues, Member Secretary were also present.

The function was compered by Luildo D’Souza and co-ordinated by Jess Luz, Junior Cultural Assistant of TAG.

This awards presentation ceremony was followed by a Konkani Musical Show presented by Anthony Sylvester, a well known tiatr artiste and his troupe.
