Late tiatr artistes Prem Kumar, Remmie Colaco, Philomena Braz, Seby Coutinho, Peter D’Costa and Khadda Minguel Remembered

Tiatr Academy of Goa in its monthly programme ‘Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ remembered the stage life and contributions of late tiatr artistes Prem Kumar, Remmie Colaco, Philomena Braz, Seby Coutinho, Peter D’Costa and Khadda Minguel to the tiatr stage at the function held on 27th September 2012 at Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Speaking on the occasion tiatr artiste Shri. Anil Kumar highlighted the contributions made by Prem Kumar, Philomena Braz and Remmie Colaco. He said that he was fortunate enough to work with all these three late artistes. Speaking further he said that Prem Kumar was a writer of high repute who wrote scripts of high standard. He also brought a lot of innovations on the tiatr stage. Remmie Colaco was a man of principles and a well dressed personality. Remmie knew music whose compositions were of high quality and standard and were appreciated by all. Speaking on Philomena Braz Mr. Anil stated that Philomena was a humble yet a strict person who always demanded respect for women.

Shri. Menino de Bandar spoke on Khadda Minguel, Seby Coutinho and Peter D’Costa. He sang a verse composed by late Khadda Minguel whose contributions to the folk form ‘Zomnivoile Khell’ which is very prominent in Salcete during the Carnaval. Speaking on Seby Coutinho Shri. Menino narrated some of the real life incidents that happened during his tiatr ‘Socorina’ in which Seby Coutinho has performed. He said that Seby Coutinho was a very dedicated artiste and a man of perfection. Speaking further he said that in the death of Peter D’Costa the Goan tiatr has lost a great comedian as there is a dearth of comedians on the tiatr stage.

A programme of songs of these late artistes was performed by Socorro de Santa Cruz, Tony de Ribandar and Gisel Pereira who were accompanied on the keyboard by musician Jose. Others who spoke on the occasion were tiatr artiste Master Vaz and Shri. Lucasinho Ribeiro.

Among the family members of these late artistes who were present on the occasion were Juliet (wife) Sandra & Blanche (daughters) of Remmie Colaco, Candida Rebello (daughter of Philomena Braz), and Maggie (wife) and son of Peter D’Costa. Prominent among the tiatr artistes who were present on the occasion were Master Vaz, Eddie Mascarenhas, Luciano Dias, Star of Curtorim, Kaji de Curtorim, Leslie Pereira, etc.

Earlier Shri. Prince Jacob, President of TAG welcomed the audience and Shri. Joe Rose, Vice President of TAG proposed a vote of thanks. Shri. Victor de Sa, Member Secretary of TAG was also present on the dais. The function was compered by Shri. Joy Fernandes, Cultural Organizer of TAG.
