Late Tiatrists remembered at Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas

‘Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ a monthly programme organized by Tiatr Academy of Goa was held on 25th July 2012 at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, former President of TAG and Shri. John Claro Fernandes, a veteran tiatr artiste were the main speakers on this occasion.

While speaking on Alexinho de Candolim, Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa, Joao Inacio D’Souza and Thomas Aguelino Fernandes (Champion Peter ), Tomazinho praised their efforts to preserve and raise the standard of tiatr and Konkani language. He said that Fr. Freddy was a great lover of Konkani more than a tiatrist and was one of the founder members of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, an institution working for the Romi script in Konkani. Besides this he was also a great writer and has written vastly and was responsible to start the monthly magazine ‘Gulab’. Speaking further he informed the audience that next year Alexinho de Candolim will be completing 100 years of his birth and requested Tiatr Academy to take the initiative in celebrating his centenary. While speaking on Champion Peter he said that he was a comedian of par excellence who was well received by the audience. On Joao Inacio he said that he was a very good actor and singer whose songs can be heard even today on the All India Radio.

Shri. John Claro Fernandes, the second speaker of the occasion stated that he had a close association with late A.M.B. Rose, Domnick Vaz and Carmo Rod as they have acted in his tiatrs. He further stated A.M.B. Rose, father of late Alfred Rose was a very good character actor. He said that Domnick Vaz was a singer of unique nature who was gifted with a quality of composing songs in a different manner. While speaking on Carmo Rod he said that Carmo had a very sweet voice who could sing in Konkani as well as in English. Carmo’s song ‘Don Panam’ which he sang became very famous during the Opinion Poll. While speaking on Antonio Moraes he highlighted the achievements of late Moraes on the Khell-Tiatr stage and said that he was one of the greatest writers, directors of Khell-Tiatr besides being a musician of high repute.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Osvi Viegas, Cruz de Sanvordem, Arlindo de Miranda, Anil Kumar and Cecilia Moraes, daughter-in-law of late Antonio Moraes . Prominent among those who attended the programme were tiatr artiste Jessie Dias, Irene Cardozo and A. Friend. The family members of the late artistes who attended the function were wife & son of Champion Peter, Antonette (wife) & children of late Antonio Moraes, Dickcy Vaz nephew of Domnick Vaz and Joaquim Rodrigues brother of Carmo Rod.

A well-known tiatr artiste Socorro de Santa Cruz rendered songs of Domnick Vaz, Alexinho de Candolim and melodious Cantos from Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa’s tiatr ‘Niz Mog’ and was accompanied Agnelo Furtado on his guitar.

Earlier an announcement was made that the Government has appointed a well-known tiatrist Prince Jacob as the President of Tiatr Academy of Goa. Shri. Victor de Sa, Member Secretary of TAG welcomed the audience. Shri. Joy Fernandes, Cultural Organizer of TAG proposed a vote of thanks and compered the function.
